Joseph Jackino

Joseph Jackino is a New York City-based artist. He hails from the small town of Pelham Manor, which is at the southern tip of Westchester County, NY, embedded comfortably on the border of the Bronx. After graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 1989, he received a degree in English from Villanova University in 1993. Jackino later studied art at Pratt Institute in Manhattan.

He presents images of flowers and plant life outside of their traditional context or natural surroundings to create a new identity for a seemingly familiar subject. By removing the focus of the painting from its usual or expected surroundings, it is transformed, and freed from conventional expectations, much in the same way as a portrait. Using colors to evoke emotion rather than to mimic nature, Jackino redefines his subject, and the viewer is afforded the opportunity to appreciate it in a new light, as an entity apart from one's expectations.
